It's Over - House clears Bill Extending Debt Limit, Ending Federal Government Shutdown - Washington Examiner - A 16-day government shutdown came to an end late Wednesday when the House cleared a Senate bill that would fund the federal government and take the nation back from the brink of defaulting on its debt. With a 285-144 vote, the legislation now moves to the desk of President Obama, who earlier Wednesday pledged to swiftly sign it. Earlier Wednesday, the Senate approved the measure in an 81-18 vote. "The bill before us tonight allows us to move on," House Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers, R-Ky., said during a half-hour debate on the bill. "It allows congress to address the broader picture, what the drivers of our real debt are and how we avoid staggering from fiscal crisis to fiscal crisis." President Obama praised the deal, saying he would begin to re-open the government immediately. "We can begin to lift this cloud of uncertainty from our businesses and from the American people," Obama said in a speech that preceded the House vote. (2) Political Correctness Can Be Hazardous to Your Health - The New Face of Islamic Terrorism Makes PC Deadlier than Ever - American Thinker - The list of beliefs, words and/or actions that can get you labeled as a "racist" by the political left in America seems to grow with each passing year. If you disagree with the current presidential administration's policies and the overall direction it's leading our nation, then you're a racist. If you don't think preferential treatment should be given to individuals based solely on the color of their skin, you're a racist. Should you believe in T.E.A. Party principles of limited government and fiscal responsibility, you're a racist. Heaven forbid you've ever actually attended a T.E.A. Party meeting or event, then you're definitely a racist. It now appears there's yet a new way to earn one's way onto the "You're just a racist" guest list. If you're willing to take a stand and say that jihadists who practice a form of Islam that is hell-bent on killing, you're a racist. The Obama administration and the political left in America are hell-bent themselves. Hell-bent on political correctness. And it's making us all more vulnerable. Read more........

(3) Trey Gowdy Goes Off On National Park Service Director for Treating Occupy Protesters Better Than Nation's Veterans - Here's His Case - The Blaze - (116,770 views) During a U.S. House hearing concerning the closure of national parks and monuments during the partial government shutdown, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) scolded the director of the National Park Service for treating “pot-smoking” demonstrators in the Occupy movement with more respect than the nation’s war veterans. Gowdy relentlessly challenged National Park Service Director Jonathan Jarvis to cite the federal regulation that prompted his department to put up barricades to keep veterans out of war memorials on the first day of the shutdown. He also pointed out that the Park Service failed to issue a single citation when Occupiers camped out at D.C.’s McPherson Square for 100 days — 100 days in “non-compliance” with federal regulations. (4) E. W. Jackson Op-Ed: School Choice is the Civil Rights Issue of Our Time - Bearing Drift - All across the country, improving the quality of education in our public school system sparks a lot of controversy and heated exchanges on both sides. One thing we should be able to agree on is that children should come first. But the continued opposition to parental choice in education is the Achilles heel of many Democratic politicians. Perhaps you saw the front page article on the Richmond Times-Dispatch just a few weeks ago. Schools in urban areas across the Commonwealth are failing to meet minimum education standards and leaving our children and their families with fewer opportunities to have a better future. Everywhere I go I meet families who want to do better for their children but are unable to afford to free themselves from a system that is failing them. That is why I have continually focused on championing parental choice in education as the key to improving failing schools. The evidence to support this solution is overwhelming: everywhere it has been tried, it has worked. Ask former Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels. When he implemented parental choice among public schools there, it was so popular that they included private schools in the mix. Read more......
