Obama in Africa: 'The Planet Will Boil Over If Everyone Has a Car, Air Conditioning and a Big House - Speaking at a town hall event in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Saturday, President Barack Obama claimed that “the planet will boil over” if everyone has access to air conditioning, automobiles and big houses. That is, unless the world finds “new ways of producing energy,” he said. However, the President’s statements do not reflect statistics released by the United Nations: Based on a data released in October, 2012, the World Health Organization estimated that “Global warming” is responsible for approximately 140,000 excess deaths each year. By comparison, as many as three million people died from indoor and outdoor air pollution – in other words, over 20 times the number of alleged victims of global warming, according to the Word Health Organization. The list of victims of unclean drinking water is even more staggering. According to UNESCO, unsanitized water causes billions of preventable diseases annually, from diarrhea (4 billion), cholera (120,000), malaria (300-500 million), intestinal parasites (25% of world’s population), typhoid (12 million), trachoma (6 million), and schistosomiesis (200 million). list from highest to least affected.  Read entire article.......

(2) Did Gitmo Detainees Demand (and receive) Treadmills Made by Muslims? - The Blaze - Apparently, the halal meals, and the 5000+ calories per day offered to each inmate at Gitmo are much better than the food the detainees were used to getting, and as far back as 2003 stories surfaced of how many of them have gained weight. Part of the solution to this problem had the U.S. providing the prisoners with treadmills. But not just any kind of treadmill: the detainees reportedly demanded treadmills that were made by Muslim hands. Paul Sperry of the New York Post reports that in 2007, detainees were given a complete fitness set-up with exercise equipment that also included treadmills. However, complaints were registered within the first week saying, “This stuff is made in the US — made by infidels — and we’re not going to use it.”........there is also a report that the hospital at GITMO is slated for a very expensive upgrade. In May of this year, NBC News reported on a few of the items slated for the $150 million makeover. - a new $12 million dining hall for the troops; - a new $11.2 million hospital and medical units for the detainees; - a $9.9 million “legal meeting complex” where lawyers can meet their detainee clients; - a $10.8 million “communications network facility” to store data, including computer records and tapes of interrogations, which has been required by a federal court order. (3) Why are Military Chaplains Fearful Following the Supreme Court's Recent Gay Marriage Rulings? - The Blaze - In the wake of the Supreme Court’s landmark rulings on gay marriage last week, opponents of same-sex unions are voicing concern over the eventual impact that the decisions might have. From nation-wide legalization to religious freedom fears, the discussion surrounding gay matrimony in America continues. Among those voicing worries over the potential fallout is Ron Crews, executive director of the Chaplains Alliance for Religious Liberty. During an appearance on CNN over the weekend, the faith leader expressed concern over how the overturning of a key provision in the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) could spell trouble for military chaplains who stand firmly opposed to gay unions. “Chaplains have been protected by the Defense of Marriage Act in saying ‘no’ to same-sex couples for marriage counseling, for going on marriage retreats,” Crews explained. “Most of of chaplains come from evangelical, orthodox backgrounds who hold to the belief and understanding that marriage is the union of one man and one woman.” Read more.........

(4) After Gang of Eight, a New Conservative Message: WON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN - Washington Examiner - Many conservatives gave Sen. Marco Rubio the benefit of the doubt when he said securing the border first was a top priority for the Gang of Eight comprehensive immigration reform effort. Later, when those conservatives realized that Rubio’s plan would first legalize the country’s estimated 11 million illegal immigrants, and only then put new border security measures in place, they expressed deep disappointment and disillusionment.“It is a top priority for me,” Ryan answered. But then Ryan explained that immigration reform as he envisions it would, like the Gang of Eight bill, begin with legalization, and only after that would it do the work of securing the border: Read more........
