New Gun Control Laws Face a Tough Constitutional Test - The Blaze - The American Civil Liberties Union recently voiced “serious concerns” about the latest version of the democrat’s gun control bill, essentially agreeing with the National Rifle Association and several Constitutional experts, it sent a strong signal that the knee jerk gun control legislation sponsored by many on the left, is doomed to fail. A top lobbyist for the ACLU recently sided with the NRA and several Constitutional experts who have testified before Congress in saying that the latest democrat gun bill, which calls for universal back ground checks, is a threat to privacy and civil liberties. This collective reaction from both sides of the political spectrum is a considerable warning to both Capitol Hill lawmakers and state legislatures that have passed or are ready to approve sweeping new gun control legislation. Many of these new laws will see challenges in the U.S. or state Supreme Courts.  Read more......... Direct Link: SENATE CONTACT LIST.......In Virginia: Mark Warner - 202-224-2023, Tim Kaine - 202-224-4024.  Even though you may think it is a waste of time to contact our Virginia Senators, please do so, otherwise they will state they didn't receive any negative calls or emails from their constituents regarding this Gun Control Bill.

(2) Senator Ted Cruz Releases Inaugural Report on Obama Administration Unprecedented Attempts to Expand Federal Power -U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) today released a report – “The Legal Limit: The Obama Administration’s Attempts to Expand Federal Power” – that analyzes six instances in the last 15 months where the U.S. Supreme Court has unanimously rejected the Obama Administration’s arguments for increased federal power. “When President Obama’s own Supreme Court nominees join their colleagues in unanimously rejecting his Administration’s call for broader federal power six times in just over one year, the inescapable conclusion is that the Obama Administration’s view of federal power knows virtually no uuuuuuuuuubounds,” said Sen. Cruz. “This is a deeply troubling pattern that we will continue to highlight as long as this Administration continues seeking ways to expand its power in direct violation of Americans’ constitutional rights. Sen. Cruz’s report highlights the six cases that the Supreme Court has unanimously rejected since January 2012. Had President Obama’s Department of Justice been successful in its cases, the federal government would have the power to: (1) Attach GPSs to a citizen’s vehicle to monitor his movements, without having any cause to believe that a person has committed a crime (United States v. Jones); (2) Deprive landowners of the right to challenge potential government fines as high as $75,000 per day and take away their ability have a hearing to challenge those fines (Sackett v. EPA); (3) Interfere with a church’s selection of its own ministers. (Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and School v. EEOC); (4) Override state law whenever the President desires. (Arizona v. United States); (5) Dramatically extend statutes of limitations to impose penalties for acts committed decades ago. (Gabelli v. SEC); and(6)  Destroy private property without paying just compensation. (Arkansas Fish and Game Commission v. United States). The arguments advanced in these cases demonstrate an astonishing view of federal power on behalf of the Obama Administration that is worthy of further examination. Read more........

(3) Colorado Sheriff Alleges Shock Training to the Blaze: Department of Homeland Security Bound Official Warned Against 'Christians Who Take the Bible Literally.' - The Blaze - This weekend, an email written by Ron Trowbridge, the undersheriff of Prowers County, Colorado, started sweeping some of the viral corners of the internet. It alleges that a Colorado State Police training encouraged law enforcement officials to look at Bible-believing Christians with intense skepticism......Trooper Joe Kluczynski taught a 2-hour section on sovereign citizens. Kluczynski spent most of his two hours focusing on how, in his view and apparently the view of Homeland Security, people turn to the sovereign citizen movement. Kluczynski started off by saying there are probably some sovereign citizens in this room and gave a generalized list of those groups that have sovereign citizen views. Among those groups, Kluczynski had listed, were those who believe America was founded on godly principles, Christians who take the Bible literally, and “fundamentalists”. Kluczynski did not explain what he meant by “fundamentalists” but from the context it was clear he was referring again to those who took the Bible literally or “too seriously.” Read more.........

(4) Teacher's Resignation Letter - 'My Profession No Longer Exists' - Washington Post - Increasingly teachers are speaking out against school reforms that they believe are demeaning their profession, and some are simply quitting because they have had enough. Here is one resignation letter from a veteran teacher, Gerald J. Conti, a social studies teacher at Westhill High School in Syracuse, N.Y.: It is with the deepest regret that I must retire at the close of this school year, ending my more than twenty-seven years of service at Westhill on June 30, under the provisions of the 2012-15 contract. “Data driven” education seeks only conformity, standardization, testing and a zombie-like adherence to the shallow and generic Common Core, along with a lockstep of oversimplified so-called Essential Learnings. Creativity, academic freedom, teacher autonomy, experimentation and innovation are being stifled in a misguided effort to fix what is not broken in our system of public education and particularly not at Westhill.
