N.J. Mother Pressured to Turn Over Her Guns, Charged with 'Terroristic Threats' After Reading the Constitution at Tax Dispute Assembly - The Blaze -Key Points: (1) Eileen Hart objected to a state re-evaluation of her property value that would drastically increase her tax rates (2) She read the Constitution at a tax dispute forum and called one of the appraisers a “pencil-pusher” (3) One of tax officials called 911 saying Hart threatened to return with a gun, but she unequivocally denies the claim (4) Hart was charged with making “terroristic threats” and told that if she didn’t turn over her weapons, her bail would be prohibitively high and it was unclear how long she would have to remain in jail – A New Jersey mother was arrested and told to turn over her guns after reading the Constitution and peacefully protesting at a tax dispute forum, she says. Eileen Hart was with her husband Keith and her 7-year-old daughter on Saturday at the Gloucester Community Center to dispute a mandatory home re-evaluation that would roughly double her property value (and therefore dramatically increase her rates), objecting on multiple grounds. As an Orthodox Jew, she refused to have the inspectors in her home when her husband was away at work. As an American citizen, she objected to the seemingly arbitrary reappraisal, noting that she is not planning on selling her home and hasn’t renovated her kitchen in 30 years. But at the forum, Hart was allegedly told that since she didn’t let the inspectors into her home, the state has a right to “assume” its value.  Read more........

(2) Guns of Law-Abiding Husband Confiscated After Wife's Single Voluntary Mental Health Visit - The Blaze - Just last week, the California Senate approved a $24 million funding bill to expedite the process of collecting guns from owners in the state who legally acquired them but have since become disqualified due to felony convictions or mental illness. Such was recently the case for one woman, who had been in the hospital voluntarily for mental illness last year that she says was due to medication she was taking. Lynette Phillips of Upland, Calif., told TheBlaze in a phone interview Monday she had purchased a gun years ago for her husband, David, as a present. That gun, as well as two others registered to her law-abiding husband (who does not have a history of felonies or mental illness), were seized last Tuesday. “My husband is upset that they took the right from us that should never have been taken, Phillips told TheBlaze. But according to the state of California, that doesn’t matter. “The prohibited person can’t have access to a firearm” regardless of who the registered owner is, Michelle Gregory, a spokeswoman for the attorney general’s office, told to Bloomberg News.  Read more......

(3) NBC: NRA Won't Block Deal on Background Checks in Congress - As Long As Private Sellers Aren't Forced to Keep Records.  UPDATE: NO WAY, SAYS NRA - Hot Air - Update: So much for that theory. The NBC story is completely untrue, says the NRA: An article appearing today on NBCNews.com is falsely reporting that NRA will not oppose legislation being negotiated in the U.S. Senate that would mandate background checks for all gun purchasers. The story posted on NBCNews.com alleges that NRA will not oppose expanding the background check system to include all private firearm sales, “provided the legislation does not require private gun sellers to maintain records of the checks”. This statement is completely untrue. The NRA opposes criminalizing private firearms transfers between law-abiding individuals, and therefore opposes an expansion of the background check system. The NRA supports meaningful efforts to address the problems of violent crime and mass violence in America, through swift and certain prosecution of violent criminals; securing our schools; and fixing our broken mental health system.  Read more..........

Obamacare's 7 Foot #Red Tape Tower Hits the Twittersphere - Washington Examiner -   David Hauptmann, an aide to Sen. Mitch McConnell, Tweeted this photo with this caption: "Note: Stacked here are every page of Obamacare regulations published through last week. The newest ones are the stack at the bottom. On the chair, next to the stack is the original 2,700 page Obamacare legislation. This stack is 7 feet 3 inches high."
