The Problem is not Gun Laws: Watch the Emotional Speech by Sandy Hook Victim's Dad that Got a Standing Ovation - Parents of children killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School appeared before a subcommittee of the Connecticut Legislature on Monday to speak about gun control. While some used the platform to promote stricter firearms legislation, at least one parent became passionate, claiming that there are more than enough laws on the books, that current regulations simply need to be enforced and that the nation needs to embrace personal responsibility. Mark Mattioli, whose six-year-old son James perished inside of the school, testified that a plethora of new gun laws isn’t the answer and that, instead, personal responsibility, accountability and civility are the best path forward. He made his comments as intense debate surrounding gun control and the causal factors behind the shooting continue to be at the forefront of public discussion.  Read more........

(2) Regarding Immigration, Beware of Your Opponents Motivation - Redstate - The subject of immigration (and evidently, illegal immigration) has proven to be a divisive issue for conservatives. There are divergent opinions as to which policies should be pursued vis-à-vis the 12 million illegal immigrants who reside in the country. However, as conservatives, there are certain fundamental goals and red lines that we should all unite behind as we commence debate on this issue. Any so-called comprehensive immigration reform proposal that is worth more than a bucket of spit must ensure the following: (1) we are not saddled with 12 million new consumers of the welfare state; (2) we don’t have 12 million new Democrat voters; (3) those receiving the amnesty will not have the ability to spawn chain migration; (4) before any amnesty is implemented, there is a complete establishment of visa tracking, (5) border control, and mandatory E-verify to ensure that this won’t create another ‘Charlie Brown with the football’ scenario of more waves of illegal immigration; (6) our legal immigration system move towards a merit-based process that favors high-skill immigrants instead of the current “Kennedy” system that is random and tendentious towards low-skilled immigrants.  Read more.......

Leaked Draft of U.N. Climate Report Suggests 2 Decades of Overestimated Global Warming - The Blaze - A preliminary draft of a report by the U.N’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change was leaked to the public earlier this month and now climate change skeptics are arguing it shows evidence of 20 years of global warming overestimation. Someone involved with the U.N.’s IPCC review process reportedly leaked the draft and made it available for download online. The report shows that each of the four temperature models the U.N. body has published since 1990 has overestimated the rise in temperature on planet Earth. The report wasn’t actually supposed to be released until 2014. “Temperatures have not risen nearly as much as almost all of the climate models predicted,” Roy Spencer, a climatologist at the University of Alabama at Huntsville, told FoxNews.com.  Read more.......

Gun Laws and the Fools of Chelm - Daily Beast - The individual is not only best qualified to provide his own personal defense, he is the only one qualified to do so. By David Mamet. Karl Marx summed up Communism as “from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.” This is a good, pithy saying, which, in practice, has succeeded in bringing, upon those under its sway, misery, poverty, rape, torture, slavery, and death. For the saying implies but does not name the effective agency of its supposed utopia. The agency is called “The State,” and the motto, fleshed out, for the benefit of the easily confused must read “The State will take from each according to his ability: the State will give to each according to his needs.” “Needs and abilities” are, of course, subjective. So the operative statement may be reduced to “the State shall take, the State shall give.”  Read more...... Article contributed by Steve Peters.

Message from Scott Lingamfelter on Boneta Bill - Passes Subcommittee, Full Committee Hearing, Wednesday, 1/30, 8:30 am. - Yesterday was truly a day that I will remember as a highlight of my legislative career. I didn’t get a chance to update you after the long subcommittee meeting last night, but I wanted to send you a note first thing this morning to tell you the good news! The Boneta Bill (HB 1430) passed through the Agriculture subcommittee this evening and will be heard in the full Agriculture Committee this Wednesday (January 30th) at 8:30AM! The bill as passed last night contains key language that will protect the rights of property owners and farmers like Martha and is a leap forward in keeping government out of every aspect of our lives! Friends, I wish you could have been there. As I came out of the elevator and headed towards the committee room, there was a massive crowd of supporters spilling out into the hallway. There were folks from all over the Commonwealth. No joke. From all over.  Read more.........
