Tim Kaine Explicitly Endorses Tax Hikes in Debate with George Allen - Townhall - Candidates for U.S. Senate Tim Kaine and George Allen faced off in a debate in Richmond on Monday night, the second such contest in this closely-contested race. There were few heated moments, as the debate format allowed for very little back and forth between the candidates. Each one hammered home the themes of their campaigns. Kaine repeatedly tried to make the case that he'd legislate in a bipartisan way, trying to draw lines between himself and the Democratic establishment in Washington. Allen discussed Kaine's close alliances with D.C. Democrats and relentlessly hammered Kaine's support for defense sequestration cuts. The candidates repeatedly clashed over tax hikes, spending cuts, entitlement reform and their own legislative records. In a telling exchange, the candidates had their own idea of what a "balanced approach" to deficit reduction was, with Tim Kaine explicitly advocating tax increases.  Read more......

Tim Kaine Won't Say if He'd Support Harry Reid for Majority Leader - Hot Air - The last time we joined former Governors Tim Kaine and George Allen on the debate stage in Virginia, Kaine was bumbling his way through an answer to a 47-percent question, saying he’d be open to a minimum federal income tax for everyone, at all income levels. This jibed perfectly with Allen’s attempts to the former head of the DNC as— what else?— a tax hiker. Last night, the man who was literally the leading partisan in the country continued his metamorphosis back toward bipartisan moderate by throwing Harry Reid under the bus: Speaking to reporters following his second televised debate against Republican George Allen Monday night, Democratic Senate candidate Tim Kaine of Virginia was asked if he would vote for Harry Reid, currently the majority leader, for the Democrats’ top position in the U.S. Senate. Kaine refused to answer the question.  Read more......

Coal Miner - We Never See Tim Kaine - "Coal is a way of life here in Southwest Virginia, and my family has been mining for four generations. But Tim Kaine stands with a 'War on Coal' that is causing power plants to close down, costing our neighbors thousands of jobs and raising our electricity costs. George Allen is the leader we can count on to stand up for Southwest Virginia. George Allen is for us." -- Jay Swiney. Link to Video 'Forced' .........

In Coal Country The Signs Tell it All About Tm Kaine - Bearing Drift - In coal country, the signs tell it all about Tim Kaine By Norman Leahy | Tuesday, October 9th, 2012 | Politics As Mike Fletcher noted in his post-debate write-up, Democrat Tim Kaine barely touched upon the energy issue. But in the commonwealth’s coal-producing region, Kaine’s firm alliance with the Obama administration and the environmental lobby has not gone unnoticed. A reader sent this photo. This one is of a sign spotted outside the Paw Paw Grocery in Grundy. It’s one of hundreds of such signs sprouting across the coal fields. You can run from or muzzle yourself on coal, Mr. Kaine. But you can’t hide.
