Abortion - #4158 - Virginia Board May Reverse Itself Over Abortion Rules - Washington Examiner (2) Republicans Draft Strong Pro-life Platform Before National Convention - Citizen Link (3) Court Rules: Actually States Can Defund Planned Parenthood - Townhall

The Virginia board ordered to write stricter rules for abortion clinics will reconsider its recommendations after conservative Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli said last month that the board didn't go far enough. The General Assembly directed the state Board of Health last year to devise new standards for some of the state's major abortion clinics. Abortion-rights supporters charged that the new rules were intended to shut down nearly two dozen facilities but declared victory in June when the health board voted 7-4 to exempt all of the existing clinics from the new rules. Cuccinelli, however, rebuffed the board, charging that it ignored the intention of the law, prompting Gov. Bob McDonnell's staff to halt its review of the regulations. Health officials said Monday that they will meet again, on Sept. 14, to reconsider their decision to exempt existing clinics, reopening an election-year abortion debate in a state with several hotly contested races on the November ballot, including the presidential election.  Read more.........

Republicans Draft Strong Pro-life Platform Before National Convention - Citizen Link - As political animals from both major parties prepare for their national conventions over the next two weeks, platform committees are adopting language that defines the differences between their respective voter bases. According to tentative language obtained by CNN Monday, the Republican Party will consider a plank calling for an end to legalized abortion — with an exception for the life of the mother — at its national convention next week in Tampa, Fla. That’s similar to planks the party adopted in 2000, 2004 and 2008. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party Platform Committee recently drafted an entirely new plank — one that calls for same-sex marriage to be legalized nationwide, and for the longstanding federal law defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman to be repealed.  Read more......

Court Rules: Actually States Can Defund Planned Parenthood - Katie Pavlich - Townhall - A federal judge lifted an injunction against a Texas based law that bans Planned Parenthood funding. Life News has more: The court ruled Texas can cut off funding for Planned Parenthood within its women’s health services program because Planned Parenthood is an abortion business. Recently, a panel of the the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court overturned an appeals judge’s decision allowing Texas to ban the nation’s biggest abortion business from the state’s Women’s Health Program. The panel ruled the law Texas approved last year to prohibit abortion facilities from taking part in the program to protect taxpayers from funding abortion facilities is unconstitutional. This ruling sets up a battle between the feds and the states. This panel of judges has essentially ruled that states have a right to determine whether abortion providers receive funding, something President Obama has made clear he disagrees with. Earlier this year, President Obama punished all Texas women on behalf of Planned Parenthood.  Read more.....
