Religious Liberty - #3643- 5 Reasons the Obama Administration May be Losing the Contraceptive Mandate Battle - The Blaze (2) Rick Warren: 'I'd go to Jail Rather than Cave' to Contraceptive Mandate - The Blaze (3) Abandon Ship: At Least 5 Dems Now Oppose New Contraceptive Rule - Hot Air (4) Rasmussen: Majority Opposes Obama Contraception Mandate on Religious Organizations - Hot Air

The Obama administration clearly underestimated the response it would receive from Catholics and non-Catholics, alike, after implementing a universal mandate on health plans that requires coverage of contraceptives, sterilization and abortion-inducing drugs. As the Blaze has extensively documented, the response has been swift and hard-hitting. Many liberals who traditionally support these options for women have been jumping ship to side with Catholic leadership in agreement that the administration has overstepped its bounds — an event that so rarely happens in theological and political circles.  Read more.........

Rick Warren: 'I'd Go to Jail Rather Than Cave' to Contraceptive Mandate - The Blaze - Rick Warren, the well-known author of “The Purpose Driven Life” and the founding pastor at Saddleback Church in California, is well-known for his willingness to speak out on social and theological issues. That being said, Warren is typically relatively benign in tone and declarative sentiment when it comes to partisan politics. ........... But when it comes to the Obama administration’s contraceptive mandate — a regulation that will force many Catholic and religious employers to violate their beliefs, he is making some bold declarations. Earlier this week, Warren took to Twitter, where he made his stance vehemently known.  “I’m not Catholic, but I stand in 100% solidarity with my brothers &  sisters to practice their belief against govt pressure,” he wrote in one tweet. “I’d go to jail rather than cave in to a government mandate that violates what God commands us to do,” Warren wrote in another.  Read more.......
Abandon Ship: At Least 5 Dems Now Oppose New Contraceptive Rule - Hot Air -ABC says Lieberman, Manchin, Casey, and both Nelsons (Bill and Ben) have headed for the lifeboats, but I think that count’s already outdated. According to Fox News’s Chad Pergram, John Kerry also thinks the new rule “needs to be compromised, adjusted.” If all six vote with the GOP caucus to either repeal the rule or expand the conscience exemption, then McConnell starts with 53 votes, but since Scott Brown’s been desperate lately to show he’s as good a Democrat as Elizabeth Warren, in reality it’s probably only 52. Even with pressure mounting on swing-staters like Tester and McCaskill, it’s hard to believe they’ll get to 60. Which means unless The One reverses himself on this, nothing’s likely to happen.  Read more........
Rasmussen: Majority Opposes Obama Contraception Mandate on Religious Organizations - Hot Air -  ........... However, Rasmussen’s latest national survey of 1,000 likely voters show a majority opposing the mandate on religious organizations — and that Catholics take an even dimmer view of such an intrusion on their beliefs:  Half of voters do not agree with the Obama administration’s action forcing Catholic institutions to pay for birth control measures that they morally oppose.  The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 39% of Likely U.S. Voters believe the government should require a church or religious organization to provide contraceptives for women even if it violates their deeply held beliefs. Fifty percent (50%) disagree and oppose such a requirement that runs contrary to strong beliefs, while 10% more are undecided.  Read more.........
