Religious Freedom - #3388 - Obama Administration Opposes FDR's Prayer at WWII Memorial - The Blaze (2) Air Force Academy Backtracks on Christmas Toy Drive Because It's Too Christian - The Blaze (3) Navy Veteran Could be Evicted for Hanging Flag -

Conservatives and Republican lawmakers are furious after the Obama administration announced its objection to adding President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s D-Day prayer to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. The objection was reportedly raised during a congressional hearing on Republican Congressman Bill Johnson’s bill – the “World War II Memorial Prayer Act of 2011.” It is unconscionable that the Obama administration would stand in the way of honoring our nation’s distinguished World War II veterans,” Johnson said. “President Roosevelt’s prayer gave solace, comfort and strength to our nation and our brave warriors as we fought against tyranny and oppression.” Roosevelt’s prayer asked God to give the allied troops courage and faith, saying: “With thy blessing we shall prevail over the unholy forces of our enemy.” Fox News adds that Robert Abbey, the director of the Bureau of Land Management, said any plaque or inscription bearing the prayer would “dilute” the “elegant” memorial’s core message and therefore “should not be altered.“ Does Abbey mean to say that the memorial would no longer appear elegant if it contained a reference to ”God?” It appears so:  Read more.......... AW:  Rarely, has any article I have posted made me madder than this one.  Maybe it's because my father was a WWII Veteran, maybe it's because Obama shouldn't have the right to object to anything like this in Washington, he's not worthy to to even walk where these veterans have walked.  It's obvious he doesn't understand American culture, as evidenced by his objection to this prayer, he hardly could even begin to write the words that FDR penned during this difficult time in our history  When will this nightmare be over?

Air Force Academy Backtracks on Christmas Toy Drive Because it's too Christian - The BlazeThe U.S. Air Force Academy has pulled out of a Christian-sponsored children’s toy drive after commanders were accused of religious intolerance.  Mikey Weinstein, an academy graduate who runs the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, said the academy’s participation in Operation Christmas Child is inappropriate because of its evangelical Christian roots.   Operation Christmas Child is sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse, headed by Franklin Graham — the son of evangelist Billy Graham. It packs toys and other items into shoe boxes and sends them to needy children around the world, along with a Christian message in each gift.  “This is arrogance beyond measure,” Weinstein told the Colorado Springs Gazette........According to Fox News, Weinstein was first alerted to the drive this week when he received a complaint from a cadet who was offended. Read more........  AW: Why is it one liberal can complain something offends them, and the offending article or event is immediately removed or cancelled.   Conservatives complain  something offends them and we are accused of being intolerant and bigoted.

Navy Veteran Could be Evicted for Hanging Flag, WTSP - Edward Zivica, a 70-year-old who served in the Navy in the 1960s, faces a hard choice come Veterans Day next week: He can obey the rules and remain in his apartment complex, or he can follow his tradition of hanging the American flag outside his place.  The managers at his subsidized housing project here have given him notice he'll be evicted if he again violates the rules against putting anything on the exterior walls.  That notice came after the flag went up Oct. 27 for Navy Day, one of several that Zivica marks by hanging it outside the community room near the main entrance. He'd gotten a letter from the management in June telling him to quit.   Zivica was in the Navy's Submarine Service from 1960-67, according to the Eugene Register-Guard.   The flag, he said, was one the Army sent when his dad, a World War II veteran, died. Zivica says a brother also served in Korea, as a Marine........He told the paper he doesn't have many options for housing, so he would knuckle under and sign a compliance notice, which he called "a confession" and "an apology."  But he also said he finds it hard not to hang the flag on Veterans Day.  Read more........
