ICLEI, UN Agenda 21 - Private Property Rights - #3056 - UN Environmental Initiative is the Tea Party's New Nightmare - Daily Caller (2) A Great Day for Liberty - Roanoke Tea Party (3) Tea Party Group: Socialist UN Effort Trickles Down to US Local Governments - Newsmax

Tea Party activists have started to sound the alarms over a United Nations initiative most Americans have never heard of, but one that many in the movement see as one of the greatest threats to America’s sovereignty. “Americans are so focused on Congress and Obama at the federal level of government right now that most are overlooking the socialism creeping in at the local level through Agenda 21,” the Tea Party publication the Tea Party Tribune warned readers on July 2. Agenda 21 is a UN initiative that 178 governments at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) adopted in 1992 under the auspices of saving the environment. It bills itself as a coordinated plan of action to help nations and local government ensure “sustainability.”........Tea Partiers aware of the initiative are eager to get the word out and stop what they see as an encroachment of an international agenda, manifest in local planning programs such as smart growth, land use policies, and green building codes. “Agenda 21 usurps sovereignty, property rights, economic liberty, and basically hands over power, resources and land to unelected elitists … to control the populations of every country in the world,” North Carolina military mom and self-described “concerned citizen,” Cheryl Pass said at a local Tea Party meeting in mid-June. “Agenda 21 purports to address environmental issues, but calls for wealth redistribution, resource redistribution, food redistribution, energy restrictions, supposed social justice, and more. It is NOT about the environment, though it pretends to be.”  Read more........

A Great Day for Liberty - Roanoke Tea Party - Roanoke Board of Supervisors Rejects State Mandated Urban Development Areas - Roanoke Tea Party - Tonight the The Roanoke County Board of Supervisors did something truly remarkable. They rejected the State MANDATED Urban Development Areas (UDA’s) this evening by a unanimous vote. By deferring action on this state mandate for one year and ignoring the July 1, 2011 deadline, a shot has been fired across the bow of the Virginia General Assembly. We are hopeful the General Assembly and other localities take note of this action and end the madness that are the UDAs. Long story short. In 2007 HB3202 passed the General Assembly. This law mandated that all localities with a large urban area designate Urban Development Areas. The UDAs encouraged high density buildings and discourage single family homes and buildings in rural areas. While this was not strictly an ICLEI issue, it was a law driven by proponents of Agenda 21.  Read more.......

Tea Party Groups: Socialist UN Effort Trickles Down to US Local Governments - Newsmax - Tea party groups are riled about a United Nations environmental initiative that they say smacks of socialism and one-world government. The U.N. website describes the initiative, labeled Agenda 21, as “a comprehensive plan of action to be taken globally, nationally and locally” in all areas where humans have an environmental impact.  Almost 180 nations, including the United States, adopted it in 1992, and reaffirmed it a decade later. The initiative has been creeping into local governments in the United States, warned a July 2 editorial in the Tea Party Tribune.  “There are people on the left side of the political spectrum — who may even believe they have good intentions — working together to spread their vision for society worldwide,” the Tribune editorial states. “Whether they meet in dark rooms or openly in public meetings is irrelevant; they are having great success convincing local governments in the U.S. to adopt their socialist and extreme environmentalist programs under the guise of feel-good buzz words.”  Read more........
