Newt Gingrich Sounds Off on Debt Crisis - Hannity - Fox

Gingrich Urges Republicans to Call Obama's Bluff on Social Security Scare - CNS News - President Obama on Tuesday told CBS News that senior citizens might not get their Social Security checks next month if Republicans won't agree on a deal to raise the nation's debt limit.....Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a Republican presidential hopeful, advised Republicans to turn tables on Obama. Gingrich, speaking to Fox News's Sean Hannity, said Republicans should immediately pass a $100-billion cut in spending, balanced by a $100 billion increase in the debt limit.  "That takes us all the way through to September," Gingrich said. "And they should call that the Social Security Payment Guarantee bill. And then they should say to the president, 'Here, we've taken care of August. All you have to do is get Harry Reid and the Senate Democrats to pass it. You sign it. We can guarantee every senior citizen their Social Security check. Now, Mr. President, are you prepared to stop senior citizens from getting their checks?'" Read more......

McConnell Proposal on Debt Limit Prompts Swift Backlash from Conservatives - Daily Caller - Debt limit negotiations took a surprising turn Tuesday, when Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell offered a backup plan that essentially gives President Barack Obama the authority to unilaterally raise the debt limit.  The move prompted a swift and furious backlash from conservative groups, politicians and commentators. ForAmerica Chairman Brent Bozell released a scathing statement, accusing McConnell of writing the president a “blank check” to continue the government’s spending binge.  “If Mitch McConnell thinks caving to President Obama and allowing him to raise the debt ceiling without cuts is the way to become Senate Majority Leader, he is sorely mistaken,” said Bozell. “It’s these sort of shenanigans that got Republicans thrown out of power in 2006.”  Peggy Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America, also blasted McConnell’s proposal.  Read more......
