We're Looking to Raise Taxes in 2013 - Change Direction 3 -  Republican National Committee - As I wrote last week in the OOTD series, no one should be surprised to see the RNC feature Barack Obama’s explanation of tax increases he demands as part of the deal to solve the debt-ceiling issue. If anything, I’m surprised it took the RNC nine days to put Obama’s promise of second-term tax hikes into a new campaign ad. “Change Direction 3″ features Obama’s answer at the second debt-ceiling press conference as its centerpiece: According to a source at the RNC, this ad will run in the interior West states of New Mexico, Colorado, and Nevada, starting today. Obama claimed that territory in 2008, and Republicans didn’t have too much success in 2010 in Colorado and Nevada. The RNC probably wants to start softening the ground now for a big push in 2012. This ad might do well in the Rust Belt states, too, especially Pennsylvania and Indiana. But if voters in those states don’t see this particular ad, they shouldn’t feel left out. Expect the Republican Party and the eventual presidential nominee to highlight Obama’s promise to raise taxes in his second term repeatedly — and effectively.

Obama's 36 Lies and Deceptions - American Thinker - Obama held a press conference July 15 which turned out to be a purely partisan effort to increase taxes and increase the American debt. His speech and the answers he gave to cherry picked questions from the press was fundamentally dishonest: in all I counted three dozen lies, deceptions and misleading statements. Deception 1. "make sure that the United States does not default on our obligations, and that the full faith and credit of the United States is preserved."  There is zero risk of a default to the creditors of US debt. The federal government takes in about $170 billion each month in revenues, but pays less than $29 billion each month in interest on the debt. The Bipartisan Policy Center has laid out a plan where the Treasury could pay: all debt interest, all Social Security obligations, all Medicare and Medicaid obligations, all Defense contractor bills, all Veterans payments, all active duty troops; and still have almost $7 billion left over every month for other items.  Read more..........

Home Depot Co-Founder Blasts Obama; Even 'Brain-dead Economists' Get It - The Blaze - First it was Steve Wynn, head of the famed Wynn resort empire, speaking out against Obama. Now its Bernie Marcus, co-founder of The Home Depot.  In an interview with Investor’s Business Daily (IBD), Marcus blasted Obama and his policies, saying “even brain-dead economists understand that when you raise taxes, you cost jobs.”  That’s some tough talk. But really, it’s only the beginning:  IBD: President Obama has promised to streamline and eliminate regulations. What’s your take?  Marcus: His speeches are wonderful. His output is absolutely, incredibly bad. As he speaks about cutting out regulations, they are now producing thousands of pages of new ones. With just ObamaCare by itself, you have a 2,000 page bill that’s probably going end up being 150,000 pages of regulations.  Read more........

An Executive Order in the Od Chicago Tradition (Citizens United Decision) - Hot Air - This is one of those issues which I foolishly thought had died on the vine, but it seems to be rearing its ugly head again. Plans are apparently still afoot for an executive order which would effectively build an end run around the Citizens United decision by forcing all government contractors to reveal their political donations before they could be considered in awarding contracts. Dozens of members of the House tried to squelch the idea back in May.  “This Executive Order is a cynical attempt to inject politics into federal government contracting under the guise of transparency and accountability,” said Rep. Rokita. “It will create an ‘enemies list’ that the Administration and their liberal allies will use to punish private citizens and their employers.  Read more........

Barack Obama - Prince of Doom - American Thinker - With almost perfect and abject symmetry Barack Obama stood at a podium in the Rose Garden addressing the nation's latest depressing employment figures as the last space shuttle flight prepared to blast off from the Kennedy Space Center. Our ever-worsening levels of joblessness and the end of American manned space flight are both Obama's handiwork. He owns them. Everything he touches seems to crumble to dust. He is national failure incarnate and even the famous Misery Index -- unemployment plus inflation -- is higher now than at any other time since 1983. Read more........

The Soft Dictatorship - American Thinker -Imagine a hypothetical country where small groups of unelected individuals can make law by simply sitting around a conference table deciding they want a new law, even if that law violates the constitution. Those unelected representatives could only be dismissed by the executive power and could essentially do whatever they wanted. Furthermore, imagine if the citizens of that country were not allowed to contest these decisions in court because they didn't have "standing" to do so.  Furthermore, imagine at least one of these agencies would be empowered to go seize the property and businesses of the citizenry without any possibility of outside judicial review. In our hypothetical country, it wouldn't matter if there were an elected body, because the agencies and executives could do pretty much anything they wanted while letting the people have the illusion of electoral control.  The country I am speaking of country isn't Cuba, Russia, or China. Startlingly, the country I am speaking of is the United States of America, bit by bit, and the resulting soft dictatorship is getting worse.
The founders of the USA knew that government would always be the enemy of freedom. They knew that if it became easy to pass laws then the freedoms of the Constitution would be completely undermined by an avalanche of restrictive laws. To avoid this fate, they installed checks and balances in the Constitution to make it difficult to pass law as those laws. They would be truly dismayed by the situation we have now some 250 years later.  Read more.......
