It was the first minutes of Monday's Republican debate. Michele Bachmann pledged more than to simply "not rest until I repeal Obamacare." Her subsequent words betrayed the higher stakes ahead: "This is the symbol and the signature issue of President Obama, during his entire tenure." Obama's signature legislation is indeed on the line. As is his tenure. His legacy. This vision of liberal governance. It could all still, after so much, fall apart. Read more.......

Jonah Goldberg: A Shovel-Unready President - Real Clear Politics - 'Shovel-ready was not as . . . uh . . . shovel-ready as we expected," Barack Obama joked the other day at a meeting of his Council on Jobs and Competitiveness. Republicans jumped on Obama's comment as insensitive. "He joked about the wildly mistaken predictions he and others at the White House made a couple of years back about the job-creating potential of the stimulus," said Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell. "Well, I don't think the 14 million Americans who are looking for jobs right now find any of this very funny." Maybe there's actually hope.  Read more.....

Rare and Cosmic Blast Traced to Black Hole - USA Today - Astronomers think they've nailed down the source of a mysterious blast of gamma rays that reached Earth in late March and continues, at reduced levels, even today. The culprit looks like a black hole, 3.8 billion light-years away, that swallowed and ripped apart a wandering star. Read more......

Charles Krauthammer: Unions Owned and Operated - OC Register - Shovel-ready was not as shovel-ready as we expected," observed President Obama this week, enjoying a nice chuckle about the unhappy fate of his near-$1 trillion stimulus. To be sure, Obama has also been promoting a less amusing remedy for anemic growth and high unemployment: exports. In this year's State of the Union address, he proclaimed a national goal of doubling exports by 2014.  Read more......
