Obama and the Unions - #3018 - Did Obama Slash Non-Union Worker Benefits at GM? - Hot Air (2) TSA Chooses AFL-CIO Branch As its Union - The Blaze (3) Steve Peters - Obama the Luddite: Friend to the Labor Unions Enemy of Job Creators - Forbes

Back when General Motors became Government Motors, which I’m sure some of our older readers can recall fondly, the Obama administration assured us all that they would not be “intervening in the day-to-day management” of the company. And that’s certainly true… unless you count meddling with the pension checks of workers to balance the books more quickly, “meddling.” Oh, for bonus points, there’s a union connection.  These messages reveal that Treasury officials were involved in decision-making that led to more than 20,000 non-union workers losing their pensions.  Republican Reps. Dan Burton and Mike Turner say that during the GM bailout, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner decided to cut pensions for salaried non-union employees at Delphi, a GM spinoff, to expedite GM’s emergence from bankruptcy.  At a Wednesday hearing, the House Oversight Committee’s Subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs, Stimulus Oversight and Government Spending started pushing the Treasury Department for answers on the effects of the bailout and on how much of a role the department played in picking winners and losers.  Read more.......

TSA Chooses AFL-CIO Branch As Its Union - The Blaze -  Airport screeners around the county have chosen the nation’s largest federal employee union to represent them in collective bargaining talks with the government.  The American Federation of Government Employees won a runoff vote to represent 44,000 workers at the Transportation Security Administration.  Federal officials tallying the votes say AFGE received 8,903 votes, while National Treasury Employees Union got 8,447 votes. The runoff was held after neither union received more than 50 percent of votes during the first election earlier this year.  The vote came after TSA head John Pistole agreed in February to grant screeners limited collective bargaining rights for the first time since the agency was formed a decade ago.  The AFGE is a branch of the AFL-CIO.  AW:  Well, this should really help the whole process of security and individual freedoms and rights.

Obama the Luddite: Friend to Labor Unions - Enemy of Job Creators - Forbes President Barack Obama and his feckless supporters appear ludicrous as they whine about the stubbornly high U.S. unemployment rate and lack of job growth during the “recovery,” for they brazenly evade their own culpability in it.  Yes, the George W. Bush administration was itself disastrous, as was the rate-hiking Bernanke Fed in 2006-2007, which inflicted policies that would cause the crisis, recession, job losses and budget deficits in the first place — not because those policies were “pro-capitalist” but because they were laced with cronyism, vote-buying, and Keynesianism. Yet the Obama administration has been even more disastrous for vital markets – by effectively codifying deep-seated hostilities toward capitalism.  Read more..........  Article contributed by Steve Peters.
