You know, in about 15 years or so, Barack Obama might actually come up with an energy policy that increases energy and grows the economy. After five months of escalating political heat, Obama finally decided that we could drill our way out of our problems — or at least his problems: Facing continued public unhappiness over gas prices, President Barack Obama is directing his administration to ramp up U.S. oil production by extending existing leases in the Gulf of Mexico and off Alaska’s coast and holding more frequent lease sales in a federal petroleum reserve in Alaska. Obama said Saturday that the measures “make good sense” and will help reduce U.S. consumption of imported oil in the long term. But he acknowledged anew that they won’t help to immediately bring down gasoline prices topping $4 a gallon in many parts of the country. Is this leadership? No, it’s more like covering one’s party mascot: His announcement followed passage in the Republican-controlled House of three bills — including two this week — that would expand and speed up offshore oil and gas drilling. Republicans say the bills are aimed at easing gasoline costs, but they also acknowledge that won’t be immediate.  Read  more.......

House Passes 3 Bills Lifting Energy Drilling Moratorium - The Blaze - The Republican-controlled House has easily passed the last of three bills to expedite and expand oil and gas drilling. While these bills promise to create jobs and expedite oil production, both the Senate and the White House stand in opposition.  In a 243-179 vote Thursday, the House passed a measure that would open up areas off the West and East coasts, Alaska and the eastern Gulf of Mexico to drilling. The Obama administration pulled back on leasing in some of those spots after the Gulf oil spill last year to further evaluate the environmental consequences. It never considered drilling in the Pacific. FOX News has more:  Republicans say that the bill, along with [the] two other drilling measures passed earlier this month, would create 1.2 million jobs and lower the price of oil. The Congressional Budget Office says that the offshore lease sales would generate $800 million in revenue over ten years.  Read more......

Energy State Dems: The New Endangered Species - Redstate - Democratic politicians once ruled the energy-producing states, but they are becoming quite a rare breed. Republicans scored strong electoral gains in the Congressional elections of 2010, particularly in Texas. Here in Louisiana, both houses of the state legislature have swung red, by a combination of election and defection; it’s no secret who owns the moratorium and a host of other energy-hostile policy initiatives. Sen. Mary Landrieu remains the sole remaining Democrat in a statewide elective office in the Pelican State.  Read more......

A Good Hot Shower - American Thinker - Not much compares with the joy of lolling in a hot shower with water streaming full force down one's body, massaging one's back and shoulders, and easing the wrinkles on one's face. In an age of near universal regulation, censorship, and media conformity, an old-fashioned hot shower is one of the few pleasures of life that remain. Or so it would seem. In fact, the long arm of environmental extremism now extends even into your shower.  Read more........

Don't Let Obama Administration Get Away with Back Door Cap and Trade - Freedom Works - Barack Obama continues to use the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to try and work around Congress and implement CO2 restrictions via regulatory action, without so much as a vote on this incredibly important issue! It’s nothing more than a “backdoor cap and trade scheme” that must be stopped at all costs to prevent further damage to our fragile, recovering economy.  Fortunately, Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) and Representative Fred Upton (R, MI-6) have recently introduced “The Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011” (S. 482 in the Senate and H.R. 910 in the House). This bold legislation would completely strip EPA of its ability to use the Clean Air Act to regulate greenhouse gases, effectively stopping Obama’s back door cap and trade strategy dead in its tracks.  The House took an important first step and passed H.R. 910 by an overwhelming margin - now the Senate must act. Call your U.S. Senators and tell them its time to pass "The Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011" (S. 482 and H.R. 910)!  Read more to find your Senator, In Virginia, Jim Webb - 202-224-4024, Mark Warner  202-224-2023.
