Transparency Behind Closed Doors - Hot Air - This video comes courtesy of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which was a little surprised to see a White House aide claim the need for secrecy when it comes to a proposed Executive Order on transparency. Barack Obama wants more transparency on political contributions from executives at government contractors, but apparently his staff believes in “transparency for thee, opacity for we” in the West Wing. Here’s Daniel Gordon attempting to explain that there isn’t any irony at all in invoking executive privilege over their efforts to promulgate an unprecedented intrusion into political thought in the private sector: “I think there are discussions, even about transparency and developing rules about transparency that we need to be able to have quietly and behind closed doors.” – Daniel Gordon, White House staff.

NLRB Memo: More in Store for Businesses Like Boeing: Update - NLRB Responds - Hot Air -The complaint against Boeing might have just been the beginning. It seems the National Labor Relations Board can’t bear to let businesses relocate without allowing unions to have a say.  Current NLRB rules allow a business to move without first negotiating the relocation with its union — provided the decision doesn’t turn on labor costs. But according to a recent internal memo from the NLRB general counsel’s office, NLRB Chairman Wilma Liebman now wants to compel businesses to provide unions with information about relocation decisions in advance. That way, Liebman reasons, unions will have a chance to ascertain to what extent the business is moving because of labor costs — and will ultimately be able to bargain against the move. Nikki Haley: Obama Administration's Job-Killing Boeing Decision is 'Worst Thing for Economy - The Blaze - As you may know, the Obama administration’s National Labor Relations Board is trying to tell the Boeing Company how to run its business. To wit, the NLRB is telling Boeing that it cannot open a plant in business-friendly South Carolina. South Carolina is a right-to-work state, meaning that it has “a law against compulsory union membership” — so is the NLRB retaliating on behalf of labor?  It’s the first time a federal agency has intervened to tell an American company where it can and cannot operate a plant within the U.S. It lays the foundation of a regulatory wall with one express purpose: to prevent the direct competition of right-to-work states with union-shop states.  Read more........
