Steve Peters Commentary - #2821 - Surprise: "Pro-Life Democrats Vote to Maintain Planned Parenthood Funding - Guy Benson, Townhall (2) Who's Turning U.S. Into the Third World? - Investors.com (3) Unions Yes? Maybe Not - Wall Street Journal (4) Soak Rich, Bust the Budgets - Investors.com

Can we finally dispense with the myth of the pro-life Democrat? In the Senate last night, three "pro-life" Democrats voted in lockstep with America's Official Abortion Party to maintain federal funding for Planned Parenthood in a stand alone vote. There was nothing to camouflage or obfuscate the issue. In case you've forgotten, Planned Parenthood is the nation's number one provider of abortions. Ninety-seven percent of pregnant women who enter its doors are no longer pregnant when they exit, and almost 40 percent of the group's revenues stem from abortions. It was founded in racism (remnants of which remain alive and well today), it is systemically corrupt, and its moral degradation reaches far beyond its abortion-related services. Planned Parenthood receives nine figures in government funding each year, and when presented with the chance to shut off the spigot, "pro-lifers" Sen. Joe Manchin, Sen. Ben Nelson, and Sen. Bob Casey all declined to do so. If one cannot bring oneself to strip government funding from the nation's largest abortion mill, one should abandon the pretense of calling oneself "pro-life." It's an insult to the movement, and an affront to the intelligence of pro-life voters. The Democratic Party is a pro-abortion party. Last night's vote confirms that sad truth.  Read more.......

Editorial: Who's Turning U.S. Into the Third World? - Investors.com - Economy: President Obama says Republicans, if they get their way, will turn the U.S. into a "Third World" nation. Has he looked recently at the course he's set us on? As psychologists say, it sounds like projection to us.  One of the cheapest tricks in political rhetoric is to accuse your opponents of doing something bad that you yourself are doing. That's exactly what President Obama did when he charged that GOP efforts to restore fiscal responsibility would turn us into "a nation of potholes, and our airports would be worse than places ... that we used to call the Third World."  Never mind that most of what he's talking about — like "potholes" and airports — have always been local priorities. And Obama is U.S. president, not U.S. mayor.  But what stuck in our craw was that "Third World" crack. Excuse us, isn't that the way we've been heading under Obama? Consider for a moment these trends:

If he had run on how he is governing now,I do not think he would have gotten over 40% of the vote. The number 40% is about where his job approval rating is now, after we have had a chance to find out what he had HOPED to turn America into.. Yesterday he dared us to have an open debate on ObamaCare, sure wish he would have allowed that prior to passing the bill in the first place.
Unions Yes? Maybe Not Big Labor's Moment of Triumph Fails to Materialize - Wall Street Journal - Remember the Big Labor resurgence? Neither do we, but we ventured back 29 days into our archives, and there was the Washington Post's E.J. Dionne declaring on NPR that Gov. Scott Walker's success in passing legislation curtailing the power of unions was a victory for those labor monopolies: "What [Walker and the GOP] have done is they have mobilized Democrats and the labor movement--Democrats in a way President Obama wasn't able to in 2010, and the labor movement, as it's never been mobilized before."......A Politico report suggests that Big Labor's woes go far beyond their losses in Wisconsin and other Midwestern states with new Republican governors: "Top labor leaders excoriated President Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in a closed session of the AFL-CIO's executive board meeting in Washington Wednesday, three labor sources said."  Read more........

Soak Rich, Bust the Budget - Investors.com - Taxes: President Obama wants higher rates and fewer breaks, but only for the over-$250,000 set. That may or may not work politically, but as fiscal policy it's likely to make a bad situation worse.  There he goes again. Forced by resurgent Republicans last year to put his tax-hike plans on hold, Obama has returned to the charge. Last week he offered a soak-the-rich tax policy as a key part of his deficit-reduction plan. He would raise rates and cut credits and deductions, but only for the well-off.  Read more.........
