House Passes Ryan's 2012 Budget Plan, 235-193, Conservatives Want More cuts - The Hill - The House on Friday approved a fiscal year 2012 budget resolution from Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) that seeks to drastically limit government spending next year and in years to follow.  But the vote on the measure — which imposes $5.8 trillion in spending cuts over the next decade — came after a clear sign that at least half of the Republican caucus supports even tougher spending cuts.It will now be considered by the Senate, where it is considered dead on arrival.  Earlier in the day, 124 Republicans had cast a vote in favor of an alternative budget from members of the Republican Study Committee (RSC) — more than the number of Republicans in opposition.  Republicans likely saw the RSC bill as a free vote that let them give a nod to deeper cuts, while Democratic opposition would ensure defeat of the bill.  Read more........

Statement by Robert Hurt on House Republicans 'Path to Prosperity'  Hurt Votes YES! - Congressman Robert Hurt (R-VA) today released the following statement after voting in favor of H. Con. Res. 34, the House Republicans’ “Path to Prosperity” budget:  “By failing to adopt a budget last year, the Democrat Congress allowed Washington’s reckless spending to go unchecked, adding trillions to our debt and deficits. Despite our dire debt crisis, the President’s budget proposal for 2012 continues to put our country on an unsustainable path. It increases our spending and borrowing, nearly doubling our debt over the next decade, imposes $1.5 trillion in new job-destroying taxes on families and small businesses, and fails to take any action to preserve our health and retirement programs.  Read more......

Rand Paul Defends Tea Party on Senate Floor: I Dare You to Come to a Rally! - The Blaze - It’s amazing to me to be lectured to and hear about how awful the Tea Party is.” So began Sen. Rand Paul’s (R-KY) defense of the Tea Party on the Senate floor yesterday. And he took off from there, inviting detractors to visit an actual rally and chastising Democrats for trying to blame the Tea Party for the delay in approving a budget bill. “They want to blame it on the Tea Party because in their secret caucus meetings they’ve done a poll that says the Tea Party could be the villain. Call them extreme, call them all Tea Partiers, say the Tea Party has taken over the Republican Party,” he said. “Well you know what the Tea Party believes in? Good government. We Believe in balancing the budget. We believe in reducing spending.”  Read more..........

Obama Job Approval at 41%, Tying His Low - Gallup - The latest Gallup Daily tracking three-day average shows 41% of Americans approving of the job Barack Obama is doing as president. That ties his low as president, which he registered three times previously -- twice in August 2010 and once in October 2010. The current 41% approval rating from April 12-14 polling includes interviews conducted before and after Obama announced his plan for deficit reduction on Wednesday. It also comes in the same week Congress is voting on the 2011 budget deal reached last Friday. The deal did not seem to have an immediate effect on the way Americans viewed Obama, given his 44% approval rating in the three days prior to the agreement and his 46% rating in the initial days after the agreement.  Read more........
