Obama Uses False Bridge-Collapse Argument to Argue for More Taxes - Hot Air -   The headline really doesn’t do justice to the actual offensive nature of this video from today’s town hall in Annandale. Obama keeps mentioning “potholes” on roads, but unless he’s referring to interstate highways, the federal government doesn’t fix potholes.......  But being from Minneapolis, the implication that the St. Anthony Falls bridge collapse in August 2007 had to do with infrastructure spending isn’t just ignorant of basic civics, it’s downright false and offensive (via Greg Hengler): The bridge collapse occurred because of a design defect, a conclusion reached by the National Transportation Safety Board. The bridge was designed and built in an era when engineers thought that redundant systems were both unnecessary and inefficient. Gusset plates installed at the time of the bridge’s building were too thin, and without any redundancy to account for a major failure on a single point, it was a tragedy waiting to happen from day 1. It had nothing to do with any lack of maintenance, and in fact collapsed because of scheduled maintenance to the deck that inadvertently destabilized it to the point of collapse.  Read more.......

Peggy Noonan: Obama Will Likely Lose in 2012 --- The Oval -  Unless GOP Bails Him Out - The Oval - Many people think President Obama is in a good position for re-election -- but not Peggy Noonan.  The former speech writer for President Reagan is writing, "suppose everything we think we know about the president's political position is wrong?"  "Barack Obama can be taken, and his adversaries haven't even noticed," Noonan says, citing economic and polling data. "In fact, he will likely lose in 2012."  "Only one thing can save him," she adds: A bad Republican candidate.  Read more.........

David Limbaugh: Ryan 1, Obama 0 - Townhall - I am beginning to wonder whether President Obama is so cocky about his 2012 re-election prospects that he thinks he doesn't even have to be serious in his budget plan offerings.  Unfortunately, the nation's unfunded liabilities aren't so casual as the president; they are growing by more than $10 trillion per year, which means that our looming debt crisis becomes far more problematic with each passing day.  I invite you to compare Obama's recently submitted plans with either Paul Ryan's "Path to Prosperity" or his own bipartisan deficit commission's recommendations. Or, if you're the risk-taking type, you may want to wait for the findings of yet another commission that Obama has talked about forming, obviously hoping this new commission would dutifully tailor its findings to his policy preferences.  Read more.........

Upton Expands Investigations into 'Secret Obamacare Meetings - Daily Caller - House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton is expanding his investigation into the meetings between special interest groups and the Obama White House that set the stage for the passage of Obamacare, sending document requests to 12 industry groups and unions that played a key role in the negotiations.  In April 18 letters to the groups, Upton asks for extensive details and documents about each organization’s interactions with the White House in regards to the health care law.  The requests come as the Obama White House has so far declined to provide its documents about the meetings.  Read more.........
