Steve Peters Daily Commentary

Obama's Hand Picked Debt Commission Co-Chair Rips Obama's Budget Cuts - Townhall - President Obama's hand-picked Debt Commission Co-Chair, Erskine Bowles ripped the President's meager 1.6% budget cuts in his testimony on Capitol Hill before the Senate Budget Committee. Bowles told reporters afterwards that the president's cuts "go nowhere near where they will have to go to resolve our fiscal nightmare."The other Co-Chair, Sen. Alan Simpson testified that "Ponzi Scheme" entitlements would need to be reformed, including Social Security and Medicare. He had this to say to the Senators gathered in the Dirksen Office Building. Link to Alan Simpson's video clip.........  SP: We all know when politicians in Washington D.C. want to "kick the can down the road" and not make a decision, they form a commission. The Obama formed Debt Commission was cherry-picked and stacked by him. He is refusing to take action on any of their recommendations. They are now calling him out to quit acting like a community organizer and show some leadership. Most of the liberal media has enabled him by giving him a free pass to say one thing to the public, and doing another behind the scenes since his election in 2008.
Obamacare Waivers Influx Fuels Repeals - Newsmax - Opponents of the new healthcare law have been handed a potent new weapon in their campaign to repeal it. That’s the 1,040 waivers to a portion of the law issued by the Obama administration as of Thursday, The Hill reports.  The White House is using the waivers to assist its allies in the labor movement, Republicans charge. The waivers release those who get them from the law’s yearly coverage limits. “The fact that over 1,000 waivers have been granted is a tacit admission that the healthcare law is fundamentally flawed,” said House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton, R-Mich. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich. says the waivers should be offered to anyone. “If the SEIU gets a waiver and McDonald’s gets a waiver, shouldn’t the average person who’s impacted by this get a waiver, too?” Read more.......
Bill Clinton: Drilling Delays 'Ridiculous' - Politico - Former President Bill Clinton said Friday that delays in offshore oil and gas drilling permits are “ridiculous” at a time when the economy is still rebuilding, according to attendees at the IHS CERAWeek conference.  Clinton spoke on a panel with former President George W. Bush that was closed to the media. Video of their moderated talk with IHS CERA Chairman Daniel Yergin was also prohibited. But according to multiple people in the room, Clinton, surprisingly, agreed with Bush on many oil and gas issues, including criticism of delays in permitting offshore since last year’s Gulf of Mexico spill......Clinton said there are “ridiculous delays in permitting when our economy doesn’t need it,” according to Noe and others.  Read more......
We Must All Sacrifice, Except the President's Friends - Austin Hill - Townhall -  We live at a time when all Americans must sacrifice. All, that is, except those of us who can be politically helpful to our President as he seeks re-election. Last month, President Barack Obama addressed a gathering of the National Governor’s Association, wherein he suggested that “shared sacrifice” should become a new catch-phrase, of sorts, for America. “If all the pain is shared by one group,” the President noted, “that’s not good for anyone.”......Here are the facts of the matter. In the state of Wisconsin, state taxpayers pay nearly 100% of the costs of government employee retirement pension contributions, and well over 90% of government employee’s healthcare insurance costs. The uproar in that state has not been about Wisconsin indiscriminately firing government workers or cutting the workers’ benefits, but about the necessity of government employees taking more financial responsibility for their own retirement and healthcare. This, of course, led to Wisconsin school teachers storming the state capitol and chanting “tax the rich – don’t cut our benefits… Read more........   SP: The president finally told the truth when he said, "I am not open to refighting the battles of the last two years or undoing the progress we've made, (referring to ObamaCare)." Fortunately, he does not get to make those decisions.... the voters do, because he is President the United States of America, not China. When Obama talks about "shared sacrifice", what he really means is taking from those that do not agree with him, and giving it to his supporters.
