The Obama administration late Friday appealed a judge's orders directing the Interior Department to act on several Gulf of Mexico deepwater drilling permits. The appeal is the latest salvo in the ongoing fight over the speed with which Interior is – or isn't – letting oil drillers get back to work after last year's BP oil spill. Gulf state lawmakers and the oil industry have accused the department of enacting a "de facto" moratorium against new drilling, while Interior says it needs to ensure safety and environmental protections are in place. Friday's appeal challenges rulings by Judge Martin Feldman of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, who on Feb. 17 gave Interior 30 days to make a verdict on five pending deepwater drilling permits applications. He later added two additional permits to that order. The judge in this particular case in my view is wrong," Salazar said. “And we will argue the case because I don’t believe that the court has the jurisdiction to basically tell the Department of Interior what my administrative responsibilities are. Read more........  Interior Secretary Ken Salazar is whining when he says, “The judge in this particular case in my view is wrong," Salazar said. “And we will argue the case because I don’t believe that the court has the jurisdiction to basically tell the Department of Interior what my administrative responsibilities are.” The judge is not telling him what his administrative duties are, but what his LEGAL duties are. I am glad that some judges are standing up and holding this administration accountable, because the administration thinks it's above the law. Obama and his energy policies are slowly strangling the life blood out of our economy, and making us very dependent on others for our energy needs. Is America's environment better off with us or Cuba and China's drilling off of the coast of Florida? Is America better off shipping it's West Virginia coal all the way to China, to burn in their unregulated factories, or here in America with our extremely clean burning power plants? Is America better off having it's shale oil production essentially shut down by this administration and importing it's oil from those that fund radical islamic groups? Obama says Yes by his actions to all of the above questions. What do you say?  Commentary contributed by Steve Peters.

Gas Prices Headed Toward $4 a Gallon - Detroit Free Press - It won’t be long before we’re paying $4 a gallon for regular unleaded gasoline, at least if prices keep going up at their current pace.  Prices have already surged 38 cents a gallon in metro Detroit since President’s Day and likely will jump again by early next week as crude oil prices shot up nearly $3 Friday to $104.63 a barrel.  Read more.........

How Obama is Making Gas Prices Higher - Heritage Foundation - Yesterday, for the first time since September 2008, the price of a barrel of crude oil topped $100 on the New York Mercantile Exchange. But while the recent unrest in the Middle East has had some marginal effect on rising prices, the most significant factor has been increased oil demand worldwide. That is why, long before the recent protests even began, analysts were predicting $4 a gallon by this summer and $5 a gallon by 2012. Anyone could have predicted that the recovering world economy, coupled with the continued growth of India and China, was going to push oil prices higher. So if an Administration wanted to keep gas prices down, they could have mitigated increased oil demand by increasing domestic oil production. But that is not what the Obama Administration has done. Instead of increasing domestic oil supplies, the Obama Administration has cut them at every opportunity, and Americans are now suffering because of those choices.  Read more.........

President Obama's Support Emboldens Same-Sex Marriage Activists - Citizen Link -  On Feb. 23, the Obama administration announced it no longer will defend the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in court.  About 30 minutes later, the two attorneys who have sued to overturn California’s marriage-protection amendment cited the president’s decision in a request to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that it immediately allow same-sex marriages in the state. Some marriage advocates are questioning whether the president and the attorneys were working in tandem.  Read more.........

1st Call for Impeachment by Member of Congress - World Net Daily - A Republican congressman has told a left-leaning blog that if there is collective support, he would favor the impeachment of Barack Obama over his decision to stop defending the federal Defense of Marriage Act.  Scott Keyes of ThinkProgress.org asked U.S. Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz.: "I know Newt Gingrich has came out (sic) and said if they don't reverse course here, we ought to be talking about possibly impeaching either Attorney General [Eric] Holder or even President Obama to try to get them to reverse course. Do you think that is something you would support?" Keyes asked.  Read more.......
