Virginia Fifth District Race - #2306 - DEBATE: VIDEO: Robert Hurt vs. Tom Perriello - Danville, Va. - October 21, 2010

Robert Hurt vs. Tom Perriello Debate in Danville, Virginia - ABC13- WSET-TV- Danville - It was a verbal joust that was at times raucous.  Sen. Robert Hurt and Rep. Tom Perriello battled it out during an hour-long debate Thursday night sponsored by the University of Virginia’s Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership, the Danville Register and Bee and WSET-13 with questions coming from media panelists and audience members. About 500 people — about two-thirds were Hurt supporters — attended the event at the Institute for Advanced Learning & Research, where Hurt attacked Perriello on his votes for the federal stimulus package, cap-and-trade legislation and health care reform.......Hurt said Perriello took $400,000 in contributions from the Service Employees International Union — several times stressing the word “international” — and that Perriello supports tax policies that send companies overseas. Perriello has ignored 5th District constituents on health care reform and voted with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi 90 percent of the time, Hurt said. “At the end of the day, Tom Perriello is not our congressman, he’s Nancy Pelosi’s congressman,” Hurt said. He added that cap-and-trade will cost 50,000 Virginia jobs and the stimulus package has failed, resulting in 11,000 fewer jobs in the 5th District. The private sector creates jobs, not the government, Hurt stressed. Cuccinelli Reveals Perriello, Bouchers "Shocking" Record on Electric Rates - Bearing Drift - ABC13-WSET-TV Danville, Va. - For weeks, Reps. Tom Perriello and Rick Boucher have blasted their respective Republican challengers, state Sen. Robert Hurt and Del. Morgan Griffith, for the higher electric bills faced by Appalachian Power (APCo) customers. In a press release issued today, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, writing as the Commonwealth’s attorney in suits filed by APCo, “short-circuits” Perriello and Boucher’s allegations: When APCo’s rates jumped in mid-December, both Senator Robert Hurt and Delegate Morgan Griffith voted for legislation that would immediately cut off APCo’s rate jump. As soon as the Governor signed the bill, that rate jump was cut off, i.e., eliminated. Ever the fighter, Cuccinelli goes from defense to offense, reminding voters of the root cause of the electric rate increases and of Perriello and Boucher’s culpability—particularly their support for Cap-and-Trade:  Read more..........
