Health Care Bill HR3590 - #2311 - New Study Shows Obamacare Subsidies Potentially 5 Times Higher in 1st Year Than Predicted - Hot Air

In passing ObamaCare, Democrats argued that it would provide a net relief to the budget deficit in its balance of new taxes and fees, drastic cuts to Medicare Advantage, and the subsidies it would provide to Americans making $88,000 a year or less. A new study commissioned by Families USA, a group that supports ObamaCare, shows that the Democrats and the CBO badly miscalculated the level of subsidies provided. In the first year (2014), 28 million Americans would have eligibility for more than $110 billion, outstripping the Congressional/CBO estimate by almost 600%: Families USA commissioned The Lewin Group to use its economic models to estimate how many individuals would benefit from the new premium tax credits in 2014 and the value of the dollars going to help pay for insurance (see the Methodology on page 12 for more details). We found that an estimated 28.6 million Americans will be eligible for the tax credits in 2014, and that the total value of the tax credits that year will be $110.1 billion.  Read more.......

Cuccinelli - Obamacare is Unconstitutional - Newsmax -  The new healthcare law is unconstitutional because it represents an overreach of power by the federal government, says Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli. He presented the state’s case against Obamacare in federal court in Richmond Monday and explained his reasoning in a conference call with reporters. Virginia presented two basic arguments, Cuccinelli explains. “The first addresses the individual mandate – the directive by the government that every American has to purchase government-approved health insurance,” he said. “They claimed authority to direct that under the [constitution’s] commerce clause. Virginia’s position is that goes beyond the power the government has under the commerce clause.”  Read more......

Va. Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli Challenge to Federal Health Care Law is About Liberty and Containing Federal Power - CNS News - Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli says his state’s challenge to the Democrats' new health care law is about defending liberty from a federal government that has overstepped its constitutional bounds.  Cuccinelli, who spoke Monday following oral arguments in federal district court in Richmond, Va., said the reason the federal government has never before enacted such a sweeping law was that “everybody, up to now” recognized that doing so was clearly unconstitutional.  Read more........
