Virginia Fifth District Race - #2129 - Va. Congressman Admits: "If You Don't Tie Our Hands, We Will Keep Steaing" - Washington Examiner

Here’s what a major mid-term correction looks like:  On March 16, when confronted by members of the Jefferson Area Tea Party, Rep. Tom Perriello, D-Va., made a startling confession:  “If there’s one thing I’ve learned up here (in Washington) and I didn’t really need to come up here to learn it, is the only way to get Congress to balance the budget is to give them no choice, and the only way to keep them out of the cookie jar is to give them no choice, which is why – whether it’s balanced budget acts or pay as you go legislation or any of that – is the only thing. If you don’t tie our hands, we will keep stealing”  Incumbents running for reelection are expected to posture, inflate their accomplishments and embellish the truth. But the Yale-educated Democrat’s attempt to placate angry Tea Partiers by telling them that “If you don’t tie our hands, we will keep stealing” is shockingly, even brutally honest.  Perriello unwittingly gives voters in the Fifth District the most compelling reason to throw him – and the rest of his fellow Democrats, who have been in charge of Congress since 2006 – out of office in November.  Read more......    Commentary by Steve Peters: This was a story that a friend sent me that was found on Michael Savage's home page.           I was honored to be able to help put together the bus (50 energized 5th District voters who did not want the Obama HealthCare Takeover Bill) and oversaw the trip to DC, when we recorded Tom's words on video, "If you don't tie our hands, we will keep stealing." Audrey Welborn did a great job recording the event and Rob Schilling was instrumental in producing the clip that hit Drudge the same day it was released. It has been played over 300,000 times in total. It takes a village of conservative activists to push back on the onslaught of liberal organizations and media bias to achieve any success. I applaud this article that you cannot find in most "old news media" venues, and thank Barbara for writing one of the few honest accounts of what is going on in the 5th District. It is important that Tom was challenged by 5th District voters in Tom's town hall meetings to find ANYTHING of ANY substance that he disagreed with Obama Tim Geithner. That was not a policy difference. Since Tom squeaked into the job by just over 700 votes, he has NOT DISAGREED with ANY of Obama's major policies, as his 100% voting record reflects.
Tom was taken to task when he took away our free speech rights by banning signs in his Town Hall meetings, as suggested by an SEIU affiliate. After confronting his Farmville political office manager, which you can view on youtube, I went to his head political director to complain about the constitutional violation of the 5th District's free speech rights. He was polite, but blew me off. This is normal for Tom and his staff, because he has continually ignored the conservative wishes expressed by a majority of the voters in the 5th District. Instead Tom's DC voting record shows he is concentrating on pleasing his liberal Charlottesville base, and following Nancy Pelosi's marching orders. Only after I got the Rutherford Institute to threaten legal action on my behalf, did Tom fold like a cheap suit. At the next town hall meeting (after the Daily Perriello headline made Tom look like a hero for removing the sign ban) I had about all I could take from Tom's lies. He told me (the disgusted Charlottesville voter mentioned in the article) that, 'I had won the sign ban issue, so basically get over it.' That was when I told him, "This is like the arsonist wanting credit for putting out a fire that he started.” Additionally, Tom should understand, but does not, that his primary job is to help protect our constitutional rights in the 5th District, and not force us have to fight him to get them back.
