DREAM ACT - #2165 - Virgil Goode - DREAM Act a Nightmare for America - Human Events

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D.-Nev.) announced last week he would tack on the DREAM Act on to a defense appropriations bill. A cloture vote on the act is expected this afternoon. The DREAM Act grants amnesty to illegal aliens who claim they came to this country before the age of 16 and also claim they will join the military or enroll in college. Even to the vast majority of Americans who oppose a blanket amnesty, the DREAM Act might appear reasonable at first glance. It is hard to blame illegal aliens who were brought to this country as children for their current status. With additional requirements such as higher education, it seemingly only applies to a few of the best and brightest.  Read more.......  It is good to hear from Virgil. This act may be a dream come true in providing a few extra votes for the de-energized liberal democratic base on JUDGEMENT DAY, but it completely circumvents the will of the American people by creative legislative maneuvering. They have no regard for the Constitution, the will of the people, nor the rule of law. As ideologues of the liberal ruling class, they feel an entitlement to override all of our checks and balances to achieve their end goals. Their contempt is demonstrated by the collectivist/marxist content of their bills, executive orders, administrative rulings, and creative regulatory reinterpretations of long standing laws. This is business as usually for Obama, Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and their minions like Tommy Perreillo, and is why they will take historic losses at the polls on November 2nd.   Article and commentary by Steve Peters.  UPDATE:  Vote for cloture to go ahead with Defense Appropriations Bill that could Repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and included the DREAM Act, FAILED, Republicans held together, Democrats needed 61 votes, received 56.  You should watch what is going on right now on C-Span, the foolish attempt by the Democrats to justify why these two items were even part of the Defense Appropriations Bill, 3:05 p.m.  Of course, Webb and Warner both voted to move ahead to the Bill, Warner's office said he was in favor of Repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell, I had to leave a message for Jim Webb, but a vote to move forward to the Bill, was a vote to support repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and in favor of the DREAM Act.

Crash and Burn: Senate Filibusters Reid's DADT and DREAM Act Defense Package - 56/43 - Hot Air What on earth was he thinking?  Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins had been seen as the crucial 60th vote because she supports overturning the military ban. But Collins sided with her GOP colleagues in arguing that Republicans weren’t given sufficient leeway to offer amendments to the wide-ranging policy bill. The vote fell mostly along party lines, although Arkansas Democratic Sens. Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor sided with Republicans to block the bill. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., also voted against the measure as a procedural tactic. Under Senate rules, casting his vote with the majority of the Senate enables him to revive the bill at a later date. Read more.......
