Health Care Bill HR3590- #1627 - Health Care Reform - Implementation Begins - National Small Business Association

With last month’s passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act [P.L. 111-148] and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 [P.L. 111-152], regulators have been busy planning the release of the new law’s first guidance for the myriad new programs and requirements. Unfortunately, the aggressive implementation timeline does not allow much time, if any, for public review and comment. On Monday, the Department of Health and Human Services announced establishment of the Office of Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight to implement provisions of the health care reform law that deal with private health insurance. According the Federal Register announcement, the new office will be under the HHS secretary and include separate offices to address oversight, insurance programs, consumer support and health insurance exchanges.
