Byron York: Support Falling in Polls, Harry Reid Announces Rush to Pass Immigration Bill - Washington Examiner - With a new poll showing falling support for the Gang of Eight comprehensive immigration reform bill, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has announced an accelerated schedule in which the Senate would take a final, up-or-down vote on passing the bill by the end of next week. "I’m just telling everybody that we’re going to either file cloture on this on Friday or Saturday or Sunday or Monday,” Reid said as the Senate opened its morning session. Filing for cloture means that a final vote would be held three days later. So if Reid filed for cloture on Monday, June 24, a final vote on the bill would be held on Thursday, June 27. The Senate’s July Fourth break starts the week after. Reid warned his fellow lawmakers that if they want to consider amendments to the Gang of Eight bill, they need to be prepared to work virtually nonstop between now and then. "This may not be one of our normal weekends,” Reid said. “We’ve got to move forward on this legislation.”Why? Debate in the full Senate only started last week. Why is Reid rushing to pass such a sprawling, multifaceted piece of legislation in such a short period of time? Is there an emergency? Read more........

(2) House Passes Ban on Abortions After 20 Weeks of Pregnancy - Washington Examiner - The Republican-led House Tuesday passed a bill banning most abortions after 20 weeks. The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, approved by a vote of 228 to 196, comes in the wake of gruesome details that emerged during the trial of Philadelphia abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell, who was convicted of murdering babies born during the late-term procedures. The trial highlighted medical evidence about fetal development and their ability to feel pain beyond 20 weeks. Supporters of the bill cited the Gosnell trial during the floor debate. “I, like all Americans, was disgusted to learn of the horrific and illegal abortion procedures performed by Kermit Gosnell,” Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, said after the vote. “By banning abortion after 20 weeks, today’s bill will save the lives of innocent children from enduring the excruciatingly painful death of a late abortion.” Read more.......

(3) Clinton IRS Commissioner: Tax Audit of Virginia Farmer, Martha Boneta - Just a Coincidence? - Fauquier Free Citizen - After clashing in court with a powerful Virginia environmental group, farmer Martha Boneta faced a second threat: an ominous U.S. Internal Revenue Service audit notice she received in the mail. Boneta suspects the events are related, that her struggle to protect her property rights is part of a larger national story involving IRS harassment of conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. A former IRS commissioner who serves on a council that has sparred with Boneta over her property said the concerns are unfounded. “You are humbled and terrorized by the whole process,” Boneta told Watchdog. “You wake up every day with a terrible feeling, and initially you don’t want to tell anyone what has happened. But as I gradually began to speak out, more people began to join with me. Anyone who is a farmer, or a concerned citizen, has a stake in this fight. But I came into the process very reluctantly.” As Watchdog previously reported, Boneta’s name is now synonymous with the fight for property rights in Virginia. The Boneta Bill (House Bill 1430), which is designed to strengthen and clarify the state’s Right to Farm Act, passed the House of Delegates in a 77-22 vote in February. Read more.......

(4) Medicaid Expansion in Virginia Now Under Serious Review - NBC12 A hot button issue brought hundreds of demonstrators to the State Capitol on Monday. More than 200 showed up as the Medicaid Innovation and Reform Commission met for the first time to review changes to the Medicaid program. Both sides are giving their reasons for and against Medicaid expansion, but the commission said we're still in the beginning process of trying to understand that type of change. Expansion could mean coverage for 400,000 more people in the state. Opponents say, right now, the Medicaid program is a broken system. "The idea really is to get everybody dependent on government - somebody has got to pay for that, and I think a lot of it is going to be waste," said Senator Dick Black with District 13, who is against Medicaid expansion. Across the Capitol grounds, a smaller group in favor of the expansion gathered. These demonstrators believe it will provide much needed health care for the uninsured. Read more.......

Immigration Bill - #4515 - Obama Runs Immigration Bill from White House, According to News Report, Daily Caller (2) Obamacare Will Share Personal Health Information with Federal, State, Agencies - Washington Examiner (3) Scammers Using So-Called Obamacare to Target Seniors - CBS Detroit (4) Peter Kinsanow: Immigration Bill Threatens Disaster for Low-Skilled American Workers - WV Gazettte (5) Obama's Popularity Plunges Amid Controversy - U. S. News and World Reports

Obama Runs Immigration Bill from White House, According to New Report - Daily Caller - The White House is playing a larger role in developing the Gang of Eight’s immigration bill than its supporters publicly admit, according to a forthcoming article in The New Yorker. “‘No decisions are being made without talking to us about it,’ the official said of the Gang of Eight negotiations … ‘This does not fly if we’re not O.K. with it,’” a senior Obama official told author Ryan Lizza for the pending article. White House officials also believe the emerging bill will be a huge success for President Barack Obama. “If a Gang of Eight-style bill is signed into law by the President, it will probably be one of the top five legislative accomplishments in the last twenty years,” the official said. “It’s a huge piece of business.” The report points out other evidence of close White House involvement. For example, Obama met with four top Democrats pushing the bill on Thursday, and a White House spokesman said earlier that White House lawyers are participating in the drafting of the bill. But Obama and White House officials have kept a low profile to avoid deterring GOP cooperation.  Read more.........

(2) Obamacare Will Share Personal Health Information with Federal, State Agencies - Washington Examiner A new 253-page Obamacare rule issued late Friday requires state, federal and local agencies as well as health insurers to swap the protected personal health information of anybody seeking to join the new health care program that will be enforced by the Internal Revenue Service. Personal health information, or PHI, is highly protected under federal law, but the latest ruling from the Department of Health and Human Services allows agencies to trade the information to verify that Obamacare applicants are getting the minimum amount of health insurance coverage they need from the health "exchanges." The ruling, explained on pages 72-73 of the book-thick guidance, does not mention any requirement that applicants first OK the release of their PHI. HHS already allows some exchange of PHI without an individual's pre-approval, especially when for a "government program providing public benefits." Officials said the swapping of information is simply meant to help figure the best insurance coverge of Obamacare users.  Read more.......

(3) Scammers Using So-Called Obamacare to target Seniors - CBS Detroit - They say what you don’t know can’t hurt you. But, a new scam is banking on seniors having a limited knowledge of so-called “Obamacare.” According to consumer watchdogs, scammers are trying to fool consumers, in many cases seniors, into giving up personal information by claiming they’ve been selected to be among the first to get insurance cards for “Obamacare.” The solicitors, sometimes pretending to be federal government workers, tell people they can get all signed up by giving them their bank account and Social Security numbers. Better Business Bureau officials say the fact that not many people know about the Affordable Care Act only helps the flimflammers.

(4) Peter Kinsanow: Immigration Bill Disaster for Low-Skilled American Workers - WV Gazette - The Senate has begun debate on the proposed immigration reform bill. If this bill becomes law, there is one likely outcome for low-skilled West Virginia workers: Disaster. The assurances of the bill's proponents that the bill will somehow help the economy obscure copious evidence that the bill will wreak enormous damage to the employment prospects of American workers who have already seen their wages and employment rates plummet over the last several years. Indeed, it is no secret that the employment picture for low-skilled workers is abysmal. The national unemployment rate has been above 7.5 percent for more than four years and millions have dropped out of the workforce entirely. Among those without a high school diploma, the unemployment rate in May reached 11.1 percent, and for blacks without a high school diploma, it is more than 24 percent. The labor-force participation rate is at historic lows and long-term unemployment is the worst since the Great Depression. The workweek is shrinking, as well as wage rates. Barely one in two adult black males has a full-time job. A record 47 million people are on food stamps. Read more........

(5) Obama's Popularity Plunges Amid Controversy - U.S. News and World Report -President Barack Obama's approval rating is plummeting in the midst of American dissatisfaction with the recent privacy controversies and other scandals. The president's approval rating is 45 percent, marking an 8-point drop in the last month, according to a CNN survey. Weighing down on the Obama administration are the revelations of government domestic spying programs, the Justice Department's secret pursuit of journalists' phone records, the Internal Revenue Service's inappropriate scrutiny of conservative political groups seeking tax-exemption status, as well as the lingering questions over the deadly attack in Benghazi, Libya, last fall.

Audit the IRS Rally, U.S. Capitol - June 19, 2013 - noon - 2 p.m. - Glenn Beck will be speaking at noonFor the last several weeks our support team has been working tirelessly to help identify everyday Americans around the country who have been unfairly targeted by the IRS. You have probably seen several of them testify before Congress the last two weeks. Well, we’re asking for more to come forward. We believe that we are just scratching the surface of this scandal and we must find the truth. We understand the uncertainty that some may have about identifying themselves and what additional scrutiny that may bring, but the best way to ensure that we put a stop to this is to show just how far and wide this discrimination occurred. If you feel you have been targeted, please let us know. Also, please stand with us on June 19th from 12pm to noon so that we can show Washington that we aren’t going to take it. (2) Conservative Lawmakers Planning Lincoln - Douglas Style Immigration Debate in front of Capitol -June 19, 2013, 9 a.m. - noon and 2.p.m. to 5 p.m.- The Blaze -  Conservative lawmakers are planning a day-long Lincoln-Douglas-style debate on immigration in front of the U.S. Capitol building next Wednesday to counter what they say has been a lack of legitimate debate inside the halls of Congress. Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) said the open-forum debate will feature “border security, anti-amnesty members of Congress.” King is one of several House Republicans leading a charge for a special Republican conference meeting on an immigration bill they say will mean amnesty for illegal immigrants. The debate is slated for Wednesday, June 19 from 9 a.m. to noon and then again from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. In between, members of Congress will join with an already-planned Tea Party rally against the Internal Revenue Service’s targeting of conservative organizations.

IRS Supervisor in DC Scrutinized Tea Party Groups' Cases - Fox - An Internal Revenue Service supervisor in Washington says she was personally involved in scrutinizing some of the earliest applications from tea party groups seeking tax-exempt status, including some requests that languished for more than a year without action. Holly Paz, who until recently was a top deputy in the division that handles applications for tax-exempt status, told congressional investigators she reviewed 20 to 30 applications. Her assertion contradicts initial claims by the agency that a small group of agents working in an office in Cincinnati were solely responsible for mishandling the applications. Paz, however, provided no evidence that senior IRS officials ordered agents to target conservative groups or that anyone in the Obama administration outside the IRS was involved. Read more.......

A Trojan Horse: GOP Representatives Break Down Immigration Bill Fight - The Blaze - Republican House members leading a fight against Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said a “Trojan horse bill” is in the works to trick the GOP into voting for amnesty for illegal immigrants. Reps. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), Steve King (R-Iowa) and Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) told Glenn Beck on his TV program Thursday that the Senate’s pending immigration reform bill will mean amnesty — and that a deceptively “good” bill in the House will get it pushed through.“We have the really bad bill in the Senate and what’s going to happen, Glenn, is that a Trojan horse — a bill that’s going to really look good and really sound good and it’s going to talk about border security — a bill that we like will get voted on and passed,” Bachmann said. Both bills will go to a conference committee to be reconciled, where “they’ll take the good guts out of the good bill, they’ll put the bad guts in the good bill, the Senate will pass it, it’ll come over to the House, and then [House Minority Leader] Nancy Pelosi and all the Democrats will vote for the amnesty bill, probably the committee chairs will vote for it, and we’ll have amnesty,” Bachmann said. (2) Revolt Among Republicans on Immigration Bill: 70 House Members Risk Careers in Planned Showdown with Leadership - The Blaze - Seventy House Republicans are planning a politically risky showdown with Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to try to force additional debate on an immigration bill they say will mean amnesty for illegal immigrants and have dire consequences for the country. The 70 members are petitioning for a special Republican conference meeting on the bill, a “highly unusual” move to go head-to-head with the speaker, according to Reps. Michele Bachmann (Minn.), Steve King (Iowa) and Louie Gohmert (Texas), who are serving as spokespersons for the group.Bachmann, King and Gohmert told TheBlaze the group is invoking the Hastert Rule: requiring support from a majority of the majority to bring a bill forward. The petition is expected to go to the House leadership on Friday, but it’s possible some signatories might remove their names due to political risk, or that Boehner could head off the challenge by striking a deal. Going against leadership in such a way could have harsh political consequences for the signatories, including retaliation such as permanently getting passed over for chairmanship positions. (4) White House Opposes Religious Liberty in House Bill for Military - Citizenlink - The Obama administration released a statement condemning protections for rights of conscience for members of the armed forces. Language in the National Defense Authorization Act requires the military to accommodate the religious speech of its members. The bill is pending in the House of Representatives. “By limiting the discretion of commanders to address potentially problematic speech and actions within their units,” reads the administration’s objection, “this provision would have a significant adverse effect on good order, discipline, morale and mission accomplishment.” Family Research Council president Tony Perkins reacted to the statement from the White House. “The Obama administration has joined forces with those who are attacking the religious freedoms of those who serve in our Armed Services,” he said. “The administration’s opposition to Rep. Fleming’s religious freedom amendment reveals that this administration has gone beyond accommodating the anti-Christian activists who want to remove any vestige of Christianity from the military, to aiding them by blocking this bipartisan measure.” Read more.........

The report included two more quotes with the word “spirituality.” Kraft was speaking from a charity event in honor of his late wife, Myra: – “For me personally, having Tim Tebow on this team, he’s someone who believes in spirituality, he’s very competitive, works hard and has a great attitude.” Read more.........

The Post reported that a whistleblower leaked a December 2012 memo to State Deputy Inspector General Harold Geisel from a leader in the Inspector General’s Office, stating that about 2,000 employees within the State Department brought on during a “hiring surge a decade ago” have “troubling histories including criminal matters,” which prevent them from being able to assist prosecutors during trials. The whistleblower also told the Post that this information was intentionally removed from the Inspector General’s report. Read more.........

NSA Scandal - #4512 - This Will Not Make You Feel Better About NSA Getting Warrants from the FISA Court to Spy on Americans - American Thinker (2) Voters Rate Surveillance Controversy Most Serious, IRS Second - Rasmussen Reports (3) The Chuck Shumer Republicans Roll Amnesty Train Down the Cliff - Redstate (4) House Committee Looks to IRS Seizure of 60 Million medical records, Daily Caller

This Will Not Make You Feel Better About NSA Getting Warrants from the FiSA Court to Spy on Americans - American Thinker - Gee...for a moment there I was worried. But then, we were reminded that the NSA internet surveillance program PRISM only targets foreigners and the spooks need a warrant from a secret FISA court judge to do otherwise. It's nice to know our constitutional checks and balances are working - even in secret, right? Not exactly. You see, the FISA court is a joke. And by joke, I mean a gold-plated, rip-roarious, 50 carat knee slapper of a joke. Reason Magazine: After last week's revelations extensive National Security Agency surveillance of phone and internet communications, President Barack Obama made it a point to assure Americans that, not to worry, there is plenty of oversight of his administration's snooping programs. "We've got congressional oversight and judicial oversight," he said Friday, referring in part to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC), which was created in 1979 to oversee Department of Justice requests for surveillance warrants against foreign agents suspected of espionage or terrorism in the United States. But the FISC has declined just 11 of the more than 33,900 surveillance requests made by the government in 33 years, the Wall Street Journal reported Sunday. That's a rate of .03 percent, which raises questions about just how much judicial oversight is actually being provided. Read more:

(3) The Chuck Schumer Republicans Roll Amnesty Train Down the Cliff - Redstate - The Senate just voted 82-15 to proceed with debate on the amnesty/immigration deform bill. Every Democrat voted yes, laying waste to the notion that there are still moderate red state Democrats. 15 Republicans voted to stand with We the People against the La Raza foreign lobby/K Street juke box: Barrasso, Boozman, Crapo, Cruz, Enzi, Grassley, Inhofe, Kirk, Lee, Risch, Roberts, Scott, Sessions, Shelby, Vitter McCain, Murkowski, and Coburn were not present for the vote. The former two would have voted for it anyway. [Update: Coburn voted yes on the second procedural motion to proceed.] The rest of the Republicans, led by Mitch McConnell, all voted to proceed with debate, thereby sealing the fate of the bill and ensuring that a phony cosmetic compromise is hatched to pass the bill and pressure the House. We will hear a lot of statements about the need to proceed with debate in order to “strengthen” the bill. It’s akin to advocating for debate on Obamacare so we can fix the beast. This bill is beyond fixing, and even if there was a way to fix it, Democrats along with McConnell and Cornyn have made it clear that their idea of tweaking the bill is strengthening the enforcement after legalization. Rubio actually plans to offer amendments to place provisions in the bill that he originally claimed were a part of the legislation to begin with (the Zuckerberg ads still tout that original speech). (4) House Committee Looks Into IRS Seizure of S60 Million Medical Records - Daily Caller - Republican members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee are looking into allegations that the Internal Revenue Service seized 60 million medical records from a California health care provider. “(T)he Committee on Energy and Commerce is investigating allegations that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), in the course of executing a search warrant at a California health care provider’s corporate headquarters in March 2011, improperly seized the personal medical records of millions of American citizens in possible violation of the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution,” members of the committee wrote in a letter Tuesday to Acting IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel. The letter to Werfel, which requires a response by June 25, comes on the heels of a lawsuit filed by an unnamed health-care provider against the IRS in California Superior Court. Read more........

5 Ways to Thwart the NSA and Government From Spying on You - The Blaze - Recent news of the NSA collecting metadata of phone calls from communication companies, along with federal law enforcement seeming to continue to press for expansion of its ability to collect personal information online without warrants, has many questioning how safe their own privacy is. Although a Pew Research Center poll found 56 percent of Americans back the NSA’s spying on call records, many have still expressed outrage over what they feel is a breech of their expected privacy and have labeled the whistleblower of the classified government program a hero. Those concerned about their communication privacy — be it over the phone or on the Web — may then be wondering: Is there anything to be done? Is full privacy even possible? We went searching and found a few answers. Here are a few tips:1. Go off the grid: Although the most extreme measure, not communicating electronically would prevent such data from ever being available for collection in the first place. (2) 5 Reasons the Rubio/McCain Amnesty Bill is the Next Obamacare - Townhall - At a time when the Obama Administration is imploding under the weight of its own scandals and the GOP's odds of taking back the Senate in 2014 are rising almost by the day, it's incredibly ironic that the Republican Party is working with the Democrats on an amnesty bill that will depress the conservative base in 2014, permanently cement in a Democrat majority in America and give Barack Obama almost everything he wants in return for absolutely nothing of consequence. It's at moments like these when you realize that Republicans really richly deserve to be called "the stupid party." 1) The bill legalizes illegal aliens before security measures are put in place: Read more........  Article contributed by Steve Peters.

(3) Obamacare: Talk to Your Doctor Now - N.Y. Post - Have you had “the conversation” with your doctor yet? I don’t mean the conversation you used to have with your pre-pubescent kids before the Internet and Facebook took over sex education; I mean the post-ObamaCare conversation, where you try to figure out if you’ll get to keep your doctor or not. Is she planning on retiring early or moving to a large group or a hospital practice where you can’t follow her? Will she be taking your new insurance? Will the various Medicare cuts and changes force her to limit her practice size just when you’re reaching 65 and need her the most? How does she feel about a future where doctors will be paid for government-defined “quality,” rather than for delivering you a service the way lawyers are paid? Beware: It’s much easier for a doctor to document quality if her patient gets better. The sicker you get, the more incentive your doctor has to run away. Read more........ (4) U.S. Senate Advances 'Gang of Eight' Immigration Bill - The Blaze - The U.S. Senate voted 82-15 on a motion to begin formal debate on the so-called Gang of Eight immigration bill that would affect 11 million unauthorized immigrants and U.S. employers. “There are 11 million reasons to pass common-sense immigration reform that mends our broken system — 11 million stories of heartbreak and suffering that should motivate Congress to act,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said.Republicans, for their part, indicate that they will seek tougher border security provisions as well as tougher terms for immigrants seeking to gain legal status. “This bill has serious flaws,” said Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), adding that the bill’s passage is hardly assured. “The Gang of Eight has done its work. Now it’s time for the Gang of 100 to do its work — for the entire Senate to have its say on this issue, and see if we can do something to improve the status quo,” he added. (5) Bush More Popular than Obama - Breitbart - In a Gallup tracking poll released Tuesday, former-President George W. Bush currently stands with a favorability rating of 49%, compared to 46% who see the 43rd president unfavorably. Meanwhile, another Gallup poll shows President Obama with only a 47% approval rating, with 44% disapproving. If you think about it, this makes perfect sense. After all, Obama fooled everyone when he ran as the anti-Bush in 2008. Everyone thought Obama meant he would be less hawkish than his predecessor. But as we have seen, Obama apparently has no problem killing American citizens via remote control with drones or greatly expanding upon Bush's surveillance state.
